The Kurt cnc vises are dramatically nicer than their run of the mill bridgeport vise. My all time favorite milling vise is a Kurt cnc vise from 1985. On a close job, I put it on a surface plate. Every reference surface indicated matched and .
I also bought an imported clone of a Kurt vise with 4" jaws from JTS Machinery. I much prefer the Kurt style for rigidity and ease of tightening (you cannot do the rapid twirl of the handle with the pictured vise). And the detachable jaws on the Kurt type can be moved to the rear of each piece, allowing you to grip over 10" with a 4" vise.best cnc vise General The serrations on chuck jaws make it a pain, but quick-change mill vise jaws are definitely worth making. The quick-change type that use low head socket screws in T-slots are wonderful. Every year we run off about 120 feet of 1 x 2 (one of the Haas VMCs has 5 Kurt double-locks on it and uses 20 jaws at a time).

I clamp a 1-2-3 block lightly in the vise, probe the left-back corner for X and Y. I touch off the top of the block and subtract out the height of the block on the Offsets page (highlight the Z value for the offset you're modifying, type -1.0 and press WRITE).
General Recently I've been looking for a new 4" drill press vise to replace the $20 one I bought off of Amazon several years ago that deflects like it's made of rubber when I clamp something in it. I've been doing some research and shopping around for something that's better than what I have but still <$100.
